Aussies Ban Branding On Cigarette Packages in 2011.

“Australia will become the first nation to ban branding on cigarette packages and will raise tobacco taxes by 25 percent, taking on British American Tobacco Plc and Philip Morris International Inc. in a renewed effort to combat smoking.” according to Businessweek.com.

This tells you how integral, branding is to the buying decision. I guess if you are addicted you are still caught up in the “dream” of the brand. Like being like the Marlboro man or something…Wow! Isn’t that is crazy.

However, it does give you some insight into branding. They intend on replacing the brandmarks with grotesque depictions of cancer sufferers on the package. The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has passed this measure into law to be implement next year.
